The days of “IT doesn’t matter” are clearly over. IT has evolved from a support function to a critical business enabler. IT expenses continue to grow. An increasing number of CIO positions is upgraded to board roles. Overall, great times should lie ahead for CIOs. However, various – in particular digitally born – companies have abolished the classical CIO role and fully integrated business and technology. In case they have still a CIO, she has effectively become the head of IT infrastructure. In this session, we will discuss the different paths that IT organizations can take going forward, as well as the personal implications for CIOs.

Using and storing private data is a necessary part of doing business for most organizations and it remains both a highly targeted asset by attackers, as well as, a highly governed asset for regulators. Organizations have tried to meet demands around data with limited successes and numerous failures. In this presentation we will explore the modern demands on data from pro-active security, post-breach incident response, industry regulatory requirements, to the more recent consumer privacy requirements, all while highlighting the questions organizational functions should be asking in 2022 to determine how effective their program may or could be.

Transformations - and digital transformations in particular - fail often. Research shows us many reasons for that. Often we see lack of leadership, missing goal orientation or operationalization, missing determination, inconsistent delivery infrastructure, legacy & resistance, etc. being mentioned as reasons for failure. While all of the above may be true to some extent and in certain situations, one fundamental issue has an overriding effect: Many digital transformations are still being built around what technically is possible rather than what our customers really need and want. What is easily said is quite tough to do in reality, because it goes against well trained customs and paradigms. It goes against the deeply rooted desire to proof to ourselves (or say to our senior management colleagues/to our boards/to our shareholders) that change it’s technically possible, feasible, and economically viable. However, the conversation we’re having should shift from “What is OUR profit and revenue from this change?” to “Which customer needs are we addressing and how are we creating value for our customers?”. Having a shared answer to this, gives a powerful “Why?”-answer to every transformation. While underlying technologies may change on the way, this fundamental alignment on the “Why?” is essential to generate, focus and sustain our energies on a successful transformational journey.

Uncertainty in business is increasing, caused by rapid change, disruptions, unknowns, and whatnots. Lately, many organizations have experienced what it’s like to suspend existing, outdated processes and swiftly achieve great things. Executives and boards of directors want to build flexibility into standard processes – but many just don’t know how.
Join Louise Allen, Chief Product Officer at Planview Inc to share and discuss your insights and challenges on how to adapt to change at speed.
